Le concept de ce jeu est simple, 2 couples de candidats sont d’abord départagés en répondant à des questions. Le couple qui reste en lice tente alors sa chance pour remporter une somme d’argent pouvant aller jusqu’à 300 000 Frs mais va en voir de toutes les couleurs pour les remporter.
Tandis que l’un(e) des 2 doit répondre seul(e) à des questions de culture générale, son ou sa co-équipière assis(e) face à une table « diabolique » doit compter de vrais billets de 50 Frs après 5 bonnes réponses les billets sont remplacés par des billets de 100 Frs, puis 200 Frs, puis 500 Frs le tout projeté de manière irrégulière par une machine infernale durant 13 minutes.
Si le candidat qui répond aux questions donne une mauvaise réponse, le compteur de billets subit alors des perturbations censées le distraire et l’empêcher de mener à bien sa mission : des ventilateurs pour que les billets s’envolent, des trappes, des jets de fumée, de mystérieuses mains gantées qui sortent de la table, des poules authentiques etc. ...
A la fin de la partie, le candidat inscrit le résultat de son calcul sur une ardoise qui est comparée à un tableau électronique, si les 2 chiffres correspondent le couple remporte le magot. En cas d’erreur, il perd tout.
Ce jeu a été sujet à la polémique les téléspectateurs étaient scandalisés de voir défiler de vrais billets de banque à la télévision à une heure de grande écoute.
Depuis, les liasses de billets ont refait leur apparition dans les jeux télévisés en France sans susciter aucune controverse.

L'idée en revient à l'un des maîtres du jeu à la télévision, Jacques Antoine (Le Schmilblick, L'Académie des 9, Fort Boyard ...) et à Jean Yanne qui ont commencé par le lancer sur la RAI 2, la chaîne italienne, sous le titre "Conto su di te" avec un énorme succès.
Olivier Lejeune, choisi pour animer le jeu était persuadé qu'il en serait de même en France avec "Je Compte sur toi" qui boulversa totalement les codes et les pratiques en matière de jeux télévisés á l'époque. Exit les étalages de cadeaux comme sur les plateaux de "La Roue de la fortune" ou les vitrines du "Juste Prix" et place aux vrais billets de Banques que les candidats comptent par centaines.
Cet ancien de "La Classe" sur FR3 est lui-même un passionné de jeux et se passionnait pour celui-là certainement pour son originalité et sa provocation "C'était palpitant et amusant". Après ce court passage à La Cinq, il se verra ensuite proposer la présentation d'autres concepts de jeux dont il est le créateur "Joyeuses plaques" pour FR3-Lille et "Pour le meilleur et pour le rire" pour FR3 Nancy.
